The system commenced operation in Q3 2006 in the new
LRZ building in Garching. It replaces the former national supercomputer
system Hitachi SR8000-F1.
Peak performance of the final installation phase is more than 62
TFlop/s .
The new National Supercomputing System in Bavaria, hlrb2, consists of 19
partitions with 512 cores each (=9728 cores in
total). 18 of those are used exclusively for batch job processing. One is used
for interactive access, whether by normal login shell (30 cores shared between users), or by
acquiring interactive resources via an interactive PBS shell.
