By: TOP500 Team

FRANKFURT, Germany; May 10 – The ISC Group, promoter of the TOP500 list, is pleased to announce the appointment of high performance computing (HPC) industry journalist Michael Feldman to the position of managing editor of TOP500 News. In his new role, Feldman will expand the TOP500 project’s information portal into a comprehensive news site reporting on the HPC industry.

Going forward, the TOP500 news site will encompass vendor product news, technology developments and trends, HPC applications, and community events.

Feldman is a 38-year veteran of the IT industry, first as a software developer for operating systems and compiler tools, and later as a journalist and market analyst in the HPC arena.  He was the managing editor of HPCwire from 2006-2013, followed by three years at the HPC market research firm, Intersect360 Research, as an analyst.

While at Intersect360, Feldman co-hosted the popular industry podcast, This Week in HPC, with its CEO, Addison Snell. The podcast is distributed by TOP500, and will continue to be delivered each week by the same duo.

“We are thrilled to bring Michael on board as he is a respected voice in the industry. With the addition of a comprehensive news site managed by him, the TOP500 project will offer a valuable new resource for HPC vendors and users,” said ISC Group managing director and TOP500 co-author, Martin Meuer.

On his appointment, Feldman commented: “The TOP500 project has been a very significant element of the HPC community for over thirty years. “I am eager to help the project establish its influence as an online news publication and offer my perspectives on the ever-evolving HPC industry.”

About TOP500

The TOP500 list catalogues the world’s fastest 500 supercomputers, based on the popular Linpack benchmark. The first version of the list started as an exercise for a small conference in Germany in June 1993. Out of curiosity, the authors decided to revisit the list in November 1993 to see how things had changed. About that time they realized they might be on to something and decided to continue compiling the list, which is now a much-anticipated, much-watched and much-debated twice-yearly event. The TOP500 list is compiled by Erich Strohmaier and Horst Simon of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory; Jack Dongarra of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville; and Martin Meuer of ISC Group, Germany.
